Hi All,

I stumbled upon this forum purely by chance yesterday. Pretty good going setup you've got here.

By the way, I'm hraj. I'm in U.K and studying for the above mentioned papers.

I'd really like to get in touch on this forum with students attempting to sit these papers this summer. What I had in mind were things like study patterns, strategies, common issues like difficult topics, any ideas/tips/advice, etc.

Also, if there are students who've already gone through 2.5, 2.6, please feel free to contribute your comments.

Many thanks,

i m sitting for 2.6 in jun07 with 3.1& 3.2(not yet sure for both optional papers at once).

2.5 was not so hard for me but i found 2.6 quite hard. So give your time for 2.6. It has the lowest pass rate in Dec06 exam amoung ACCA papers.

Hi Sunflower, Rluitel,

I'm attending lectures in London during weekends. It's tough going as I work full-time. Studying takes up all your spare time. Still. It's worth it in the end.

rluitel, thanks for pointing out the pass rates for 2.6. I was aware of it. It concerns me but I guess I just need to do the work.

My classes for 2.5 started. First day was not so bad. Lots of standards and concepts. The day ended with Group/Consolidated accounts. I enjoyed doing that in 1.1 so it wasn't so bad. I have a 2.6 lecture this weekend and the following weekend. This should ramp up the workload. There go my evenings and weekends.

2.5 is on 7th June'07 and 2.6 on the 12th June'07. Literally 4.5 days of study between the two papers, including Saturday and Sunday.

rluitel, I always wanted to visit Nepal. I hear it's very beautiful. One day, perhaps.

Sunflower, where are you based?

rluitel, 2.6, 3.1 and 3.2 sounds quite ambitious. But you never know until you try.

Speak to you soon,

Hi,

I think Paper 2.5 is quite lengthy. Questions are time consuming. You need to be very cautious about the time factor at the exam. I appeared for the paper in Dec06 but could attempt only for 50 marks questions and got 42. I admit i was slow.

are you getting any strategy at the Tution to complete the paper fast. Pls do share with us.

BTW i am from India.

My advice to everyone sitting all papers is Do Section B first. Section A is always compulsory, whether you are happy with the content n style of those questions or not. For example in 2.5 the first Q is ALWAYS on consolidations, whether u like this area of the syllabus or not. If you dont feel at ease with this, leave it till the end. Just make sure you label the answer sheet correctly so the marker knows which Qs u are answering.

In Section B (esp for 2.6 which has a low passrate) u can gain many marks by attempting your favourite areas of the syllabus first. I think they are worth 20m each so by doing this first u can attempt 40 marks and gain at least 30 marks straight away. You cannot allow urself to get side-tracked and short for time, which is typical when u attempt Section A first because u have a lengthy scenario to read, understand and get ur head into. So by doing Sec B first u avoid all this AND earn lots ofmarks.

Sometyms what happens is you think you understand the scenario but really u dont, and u end up wasting soooo much time trying to attempt Qs about this sceraio and u end up doing them wrong. That is why I would advise eveyone to do Sec B (which usually only makes refence to short scenarios) and u can also choose which ones u wanna do) and leave the first till last.

Experience.

The most common advice that I frequently receive in all of my lectures is do the easy parts first. If you spot parts of question that you are confident to answer, attempt those parts first. This ensures that you have picked up the easy marks first.

Work your way through to the rest of the questions towards completing the paper. I've been told no-one ever finishes the paper and that the best strategy is to try as much as you can.

In view of the fact that all the papers are time-pressured and you need to work as fast as you can, the best thing to do is bag the easy marks first and then work your way through.

In all the papers I've attended so far, the above strategy has worked for me. I hope this helps you.

Hi All
I'm studying 2.4 & 2.4 for June 07.
I have been told by my 2.5 lecturer time management is the biggest reason for failing 2.5.
The questions are actually written to be 1 hour long each!, We have to do 4 in 3 hours!!!!

ARRGHHH!
