Need advice on law variant Paper 2.2

Hi all,

I'm taking paper 2.2 for the June 2007 exam sitting and I'm faced with a dilemma to decide on a law variant. Here's the scenario:
I used to work in Malaysia but due to relocation I'm now working in Singapore. I have then changed my accounting stream from Malaysia (MYS) to International. Now it comes to paper 2.2 and I'm torn between keeping the law variant to Malaysia and choosing Singapore variant or UK variant.

I'm undecided as to where I want to pursue my career in future. At first I thought switching the law variant to International would be a safe thing but was later advised by ACCA staff that there's no such thing as international law variant. Now I'm at a loss as to which law variant to choose. Has anyone been caught in this predicament before? Is there a fail-safe plan for me? Would be immensely grateful for any advice :)

Best,
SH

If you don't know where there is good chance you will pursue your career then i think International scheme is not bad otherwise Singapore variant could be helpful in your near future.

Thanks Mariam, but could you please clarify whether or not 'International scheme' is the same as 'UK variant' for law and tax papers? Thanks again.

Hi,

International is not the same as uk. The "international" law variant is called global, probably why you can not find it. I'm surprised ACCA staff did not know this!

Law for the uk is usually listed as UK or English.

Tax for the uk is GBR.

Hope it helps.

FYI:

The 'International Scheme' for the Law variant that everyone is referring to is actually Global Law Variant. This syllabus will have extra parts to it, in addition to the U.K law variant. Be careful when you order your study material/courses and watch out for the correct variant when you are submitting your examination registration due in April'07.

I opted to sit for the International scheme for all of the ACCA papers. By default, my law variant was selected as Global. Should you choose not to sit the Global variant, you can specify the variant for your country. However, ensure you study the correct material and notify ACCA when registering for your exams.

Good Luck!
