don't use them - they are crap, full of cartoons and MS OFFICE cliparts, lots of mistakes, mistypes, errors and repititions -
I did that mistake for F7 and regret it, better stick with official stuff (BBP and Kaplan), unless YOU are some 12 old high school guy who prefers cartoons.

LOL! Why are you saying that? I dont think they are bad!
I used them for F8 and I luved it!
Dont you think that you started studyin just 1 week before exam so that also made the exam bad for you??
registoni - 20 Jun 2008, 09:54 am
i don't know about f8, but try to open their f7 and start reading at least the first chapter and you will get my point
sad_soul - 21 Jun 2008, 11:19 am
F8 is a theoratical paper n u cant figure out the technical mistakes easily unless u r subject champion, F7 is based on numerics, hard facts, easy to scan, so registoni may have a valid point here.
Its very risky to go for unapproved publisher.
Assadpervaiz - 21 Jun 2008, 12:52 pm
I dont understand why would an unapproved publisher mean that its risky?
Muhammad Farhan - 03 Jul 2008, 01:35 pm
U can get GTG text from Al Wahid near services mess near Karachi Gymkhana

DEAR Assad thats because approved ones are gone trough scrutiny of ACCA and has an experiance of co-oping with ACCA changes and syllabus changing needs

yes
Assad that is the reason (& there is another reason) as I tell you before
but
for every body here really I prefer the GTG materials for many reasons but I didn't buy it till now because of the mentioned reason (approved by) but I plan to try it this season (after discussing this issue with my frinds on Egypt)
so before take any impression about
GTG you must try reading a chapter from this link
http://getthroughguides.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=63
really you will find it better

ACCA 'approved status' is purely financially driven. The approved published have paid ACCA a large sum of money and there is NO correlation between the quality of their material and this status being granted, actually, as far as I know, the material is not even reviewed by ACCA.
It is purely a commercial agreement between ACCa & the approved parties whereby both of them make money - ACCA from the publishers & the publishers from the students who buy their books at inflated prices.
Make your own minds up!!

That's not true, they are paying for the examiner to review the books. I'm sure there is a large cost involved but I don't think ACCA examiners would review books for nothing!!
I had a query where FTC and BPP got a different answer to the same question and it was confirmed that the examiner had reviewed both books and said both methods were acceptable.
That's quite often why books are delayed, especially with the introduction of the new syllabus.

hi bluewednesday
What did kaplan and bpp told ya ? and how can we take there word for it?
I dont think there are any study secrets to be found in bpp/kaplan so even if examiner does review it doesnt matter to me AS LONG AS the syllabus has been covered.

That means that GTG boooks are getting reviewed by ACCA Head examiners because its took ages for P series books to come out and also still all P series are not available yet. 8)

I guess we have to take their word for it but why would they lie? What's the point of saying they are reviewed if they are not?? Ethics??? ACCA would surely not allow them to say they are reviewed by the examiners if they are not!
As to whether that means they are better than GTG, I couldn't say, I'm sure GTG cover the syllabus and are perfectly okay. What I am questioning is that the approval is just paid for and no reviewing is carried out.
I'm not quite sure what your second post means?
I think you will find that I am completely unbiased, I don't favour one textbook over any other!
Assadpervaiz - 07 Jul 2008, 11:50 am
Yes I agree ACCA Examiner will definitely have reviewed the textbooks so if people want that then its okay .. we should read what we enjoy reading .
Thats my stand.
