P5 June 08 exam and results

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone else sat the P5 paper in June and what they thought of it??

I came out of the exam absolutely furious  I thought the paper was a million miles away from any previous papers. I thought that there were very little marks for time consuming calculations. And I generally felt cheated after going into the exam so confident and knowing what I thought to be the majority of the syllabus very well. :(

I emailed my lecturer who felt the same and said he would be contacting ACCA with his opinion.

Anyway I got my results today and they certainly did not mark it leniently.... in fact I though they marked it very harshly. I failed the exam - The 1st of all the acca exams that I have failed, I got 43%. Based on the marking scheme that appeared on the ACCA website recently I felt that I was going to be borderline and may just scrape it or miss it by 1 or 2 % max. I was honestly shocked when I saw 43%.

I would love to hear what anyone else thought about the paper and if you were happy with your results.

I felt it was the most difficult P5 set so far, however I think it is fair to set a professional essential paper at that level (compared to P4, P6 and P7)

Congrats Tojo!!! I should be there with you

Lilian.... don't panic. The syllabus is quite small for this subject. I know I failed but if I could pick any subject to have to repeat it would be this one!! Hopefully it will go well for both of us in December!

Yes, don't give up, fight for every marks.

Remember Shane Johnson's style is "RECYLING", that means he gonna repeat his past year questions, just mix them up and change some name, number. So the more you practice the higher chance you pass.

Goodluck

Hi tojo,

Thanks for the reply! It wasn't really the difficulty that I was annoyed about, it was the content.

I thought it was very dissimilar from any previous papers. Looking at the pilot paper.... the paper the examiner uses as an example of things to come and the Dec 07 paper, I don't know where the June 08 paper came from..... it was like a totally different subject.

But I am glad that I'm not the only one who struggled with it. I really appreciate the reply!
