I do not have any experience at all, but I`ve found a solution. I was thinking about Ptap as well but I am already paying for ACCA I and do not want to pay for a training. I am working in the department store and one day I asked for a work experience in finance and they said yes. I go there two or three times per week and it is brilliant. I do not get any money but I feel that I am learning a lot.

Hi guys,

I'm really frustrated because I have no practical accounting experience. Right now I'm looking for work that will count towards my PER but I'm really struggling. All the jobs I have been looking at require experience but its a viscious circle - how do I get experience if they don't give me a chance?????

I keep seeing ads in Pass and PQ magazine for a practical accountancy training college called Ptap. From what I've read now on their website, it sounds like just the thing to get my foot through the door.

I'm seriously thinking of enrolling but I want to know has anyone been there before?

I went to Ptap and it was the best decision I ever made. I had zero experience and by the time I finished I was more than confident in the accounting skills I could offer. All the workshops prepare you for real life situations and you are able to gain exposure to key areas that you may not even get from training at a practice firm. Not only that, I was able to excel my skills working on live accounts within the practice Attachment (which is under Phillips, Kobbs & co) and in doing the 12 months course, I was given the opportunity to be a team leader and perform account reviews (which is excellent managerial experience!)

I am working with an excellent firm now, so what can I say it was money well spent.

Hi guys,

I am an ACCA and ACA (ICAEW) qualified and currently working with a top ten firm in London. Myslef and my 3 other chartered accountants friends have started a training company called 'Tops London' to provide practiacl experience to professional students.

We all have gone through similar situation as you. When we qualified as ACCA, we did not have practical experience and encountered difficulties in finding professional jobs. We all trained with big4, top ten and multinational companies in London. We have designed a workshop to help studens to gain a valuable practical experience on Sage Line 50, IRIS Accounts production, IRIS personal and corporation tax and Sage payroll.

Our workshop is very unique and different from other institution. It gives an opportunity to students to work on real clients and get advice from professionals working with top companies. At the same time this workshop will aslo help students on Cvbuild up and career progression.

Please call us fro more information. See below for more details:

About us:
TOPS is a London based training organisation providing work based training to professional students. Tops is run by experienced Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) and ACCA trained with Big 4 and top 10 firms in London.

Those who want to obtain advise on career progression, CV build up and secure a position in a finance function.
Those who want help to do Oxford Brookes University research and analysis project.
Those who want help on UK wok permits
