Can someone advice me on my career path please???
I am an ACCA student and working full time as an account assistant in a retail company for 2 years, the company is great as they sponsor me towards my study and my colleagues are all very nice...
However, I don't have room for progression and I can't learn new things except now I am more advanced in my Excel skills. The assistant role I have now seems very clerical and does not satisfy me at all...The problem is that I know I can't get promoted as there is just no position in company. I really want to learn more and be more involved, not just designing spreadsheets and producing month end management reports.
I started job hunting and was surprised to hear from the agencies that I am actually underpaid which gave me more motivation to look for a better career, I just had 2 interviews with a global and well known company for a business analysts role, I am not sure if I should go into this role as the company told me 80% of my job will be on IT solutions, solving problems and performing financial assessments, they also frankly told me that the job is not very much financial based only around 20%.
ACCA requirements for membership is that I need to have practical experience but nothing in the criteria matches this role (business analysts). In Feb'07 ACCA magazine, there was an article about nowadays accountants are required to know more than figures and accounting theories, accountants have more choices and therefore need a wider knowledge about everything, and that IT is key to success, business analysis skills are also found to be very critical and beneficial in order to become successful...
Therefore I am quite stuck....not sure what I should do as this sounds a very good opportunity especially this is a very good company with plenty of opportunities to get developed.
Can someone please advice me???? I am really not sure where I want to go...my dream is to become a person who can contribute to the growth of a company by supports and advice on financial matters..making decisions about investments and drive a company forward...what does it take and where should i go in order for me to achieve my goal???????????
